Tourism Minister David Collado announced the creation of a national registry of short-term rental properties, such as those listed on Airbnb. The registry will make it possible to identify the properties, their location and basic guest information. "Our goal is to bring order for safety reasons," he said, explaining that the measure seeks to improve the response to emergencies involving tourists.

Collado clarified that it is not a tax measure: "Tax matters are handled by the Ministry of Finance and the Dirección General de Impuestos Internos (DGII)." He added that when an incident occurs with a tourist staying in a rental apartment, embassies turn to the Ministry, and the registry will make that coordination easier.

The initiative is part of a broader plan that includes land-use planning in Punta Cana, Puerto Plata and La Romana, as well as sustainable tourism policies. The article does not yet give dates or specific registration requirements. Owners who rent through platforms should follow the issue in order to comply once the measure takes effect, and having local property management makes compliance easier.
