Foreign Investment in the Dominican Republic Reached a Record US$5.03 Billion in 2025
The Rio Times, August 21, 2026
In 2025 the Dominican Republic received the largest foreign direct investment in its history: US$5.03 billion according to the Central Bank, 11.3% more than the US$4.52 billion of 2024. President Luis Abinader highlighted the figure at the 2026 Investment Forum of the Americas, held in Santo Domingo in August.
By sector, tourism received 26.3% of the total, energy 23.8% and real estate 15.7%, followed by commerce and industry (10.5%), free trade zones (8.7%) and mining (6.7%). The fact that real estate is the third-largest destination for foreign investment confirms international interest in Dominican property, both residential and tourism-related.
The Central Bank projects that foreign investment in 2026 will exceed US$4.8 billion and stresses that this figure is a floor, not a ceiling. For anyone considering buying in the country, these numbers show that institutional investors and companies from around the world continue to make a sustained bet on the Dominican economy.
